Um, no he's not. You are what your stats are. You don't get a bonus for being a "name."
Even when both Smith/Gasol are at their best Gasol is slightly > or = to Smith, and that's just in a vacuum. In "real" life Pau is even better because he balances your team. You don't need to change the composition of your team to maximize his #s like you have to do with Smith.
Your team is pretty deep, though, so Thornton isn't worth much. He's about the same as Lou Williams.
Smith or Gasol?
Right now Gasol is 80th on BBM, Smith 82nd. I don't know why previous posters are acting like Smith >>> Gasol; it's actually quite close.
Last year Gasol was 13th, Smith 16th, justifying that I said earlier: that when both are at their best Gasol is slightly better.
Finally, team needs. From a glance your team is quite weak in %s. Pau fits in much better with your team.
Who is more likely to reach their best this season, though? Despite all these little wins Pau is accumulating, IMO it's unequivocally Josh, and frankly that's what matters the most. (But if Gasol is traded, I would unequivocally take Gasol weeeell ahead of Josh.)
Honestly, I really wish you could accept this, but realize I am the biggest Pau fanboy ever. Unfortunately, Pau just doesn't fit in LA right now. I don't think it's going to get much better. Since D'Antoni's taken over Pau's shooting (I read) jumpers 50% of the time compared to ~35% when Brown was around. Pau being forced away from the paint means he's just not that good. Until he's traded (I have 0 confidence in Kobe/LAL figuring it out) you just have to avoid him.
