Dome and Dutch Retire As Moderators!

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Fri Apr 18, 2008 12:41 pm

Fantasy Leaguers,

I would like to announce the retirement of two great moderators on this forum.

Dome and Dutch have decided to retire as moderators due to real life commitments.

Both of them were a pleasure to work with over the years and will miss having them on the staff.

They are two of the best fantasy owners I have ever known and cannot be replaced. That will be the case as the plan is to go with four moderators and I still have four great ones left.

For now though, please join me in wishing Dome and Dutch a happy retirement and the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Thanks Dome and Dutch!

Thanks Howard!

I've had a great time here in the last few years as a moderator on RealGM, both on the Magic forum and the fantasy forum. Ironically enough I get to retire for the 2nd time here, but right now it looks to be here to stay.

The past season I haven't been as active as I wanted to be here on the fantasy board due to so many new things in my life taking up time. However, I've had a great time here and hope the forum will continue it's course over the next few years.

Best of luck to my fellow countryman Dutch as well in his retirement. Where's this place going to without it's two Dutchmen in charge? ;) j/k

Thanks for everything, and best of luck in fantasy next year and beyond!

For those of you who are interested in my motivation and such, here's the retirement post I made for the VBA (Virtual Basketball Association) fantasy league I've been part of over the past few years.

Dome wrote:As you guys read early november, my plan was to retire from fantasy basketball, and thus the VBA, after this season. With the fantasy season now behind us, the championship trophies handed out and the league starting to move towards the contraction and expansion drafts, it's time for me to move on as well.

It took me a bit of time, but I finally found my retirement home:

Not bad, huh? 8)

OK I admit; I only wish I had a place like that.

To me however, all of this was not as much about the destination as much as it was about the journey towards it. The way I see it, wealth and success don't define who you are; the way you got that wealth and success does. Being a millionaire is great, but there's a big difference between a lottery winner, a drugdealer, a businessman or an athlete or celebrity. Much of that goes for my time in the VBA as well.

I've always done a lot of self-reflection and introspection. During my time at Cura

I faded out this year... and definitely missed both of you guys. Stick around, you know? I'm working on a little comeback, enough to at least be social with everybody, enough to keep having some fun.

stay near,
stay cool.

You know, I have to say, I don't know if things will be the same without Dutch and Dome around. Admittedly, I only knew Herm this year, but Anton, I've known on the fantasy boards for 3-4 years. Solid fantasy guys...but even more important, respectful and top-rate class guys, some of the best I've ever played with. Don't go away forever.

On another note, I have to ask, who is OldNo7? I'm sure he's a great moderator, but with all due respect, why does Howard bring in a guy that has hardly ever been on the board? Why not use guys who have been here, know the board, know the issues...and MOST importantly, guys who others on this board already know and trust?

I don't know, it seems pretty clear to me that we'd make a fantasy regular a mod on the fantasy board.

No disrespect to OldNo7...I'm sure you're an awesome moderator, and I look forward to playing fantasy ball with you if you end up taking over an open spot in one of the leagues. Just wondering out loud what Howard's mentality is on this one.

Thx guys for the kind words. I hope to be around somewhat. Truth is I have too little time to put the effort into to this that I like to put into it.

Another truth is that I really have not missed it as much as I expected.

On a different note I did manage to finish third in the battle of the sports forums this year. After winning last year and finishing second in the first year.

Fantasykings (which I represented) won the season overall and SilentJim from the Cafe won the fantasy playoffs.

Funny, but I have no time whatsoever to be a mod here. Finishing my Ph.D., starting my major examinations in 3 months...which is primarily the reason I made the inquisition of Howard's choice. like I said, I'm sure the guy is great, but with little time to argue any discrepancies in fairness, I look to guys like Sly, not to mention Dutch and Dome, to keep things in tact and know the real issues on the board.

Thanks for the kind words, writersblock (and others, offcourse). I was only here for one year, but it definitely was a good one and had a lot of fun.

Oh and as far as OldNo7, it's not a new mod, it's whosthebosh? that got a new screenname. :) I have to admit, I had to take a good look at it the first few times as well, the avatar eventually rung a bell in my dome's upper chambers.

Retiring from fantasy basketball

How about that I am quitting this awesome that brought me a lot of fun and entertainment and lots of good times online talking to friends over MSN, AIM and YIM. Why quit? Simple less and less time to devote to this and realizing that there are a lot of different things in life I also enjoy which I hope to experience as well.

I did not want to leave the game however going in to shear anonymity. So I decided to tell you guys a little about my history regarding fantasy basketball

Thanks for your contribution across the boards Anton; not just on RealGM, but from various other forums.

Your fantasy record speaks volumes of your fantasy ability. We will all miss your expertise in our fantasy leagues, although now that you are gone, we could actually win ;)

Damn ... fastforwarding....

Dutch and Dome were two model citizen on the fantasy board. Had some nice arguments and fights with Dutch over the days on msn.. regarding a whole bunch of stuff, sending advice both ways.

Always will enjoy The participation in the Battle of The Sports Forum also... Even tho I placed the highest of the 2 Real GM participations each year (lol Craig, I had to say it), I will be retiring from that league as I too, dont have as much time. I'd ask the new mod's and the former mods, to do the selection of 2 deserving participants.

I wasnt able to participate on this board as much this year, as I became a mod on the Raptors Board, which is a job n a half lol

Hopefully, currently, Dome and Dutch are partying & drinking it up with the rest of the country, and hopefully the Sea of Orange can finally celebrate a EURO CUP win. I certaintly hope so, cuz they are my favorite team as well, and I love bringing out my old skool Bergkamp jersey.
