This is an inaugural Auction Cap League. The premise of this is just like being a GM. Your responsible for a 15 man roster. You must stay under the Cap when it comes to salaries, no New York Knicking it here. Also, since this is an auction cap league, when you offer a contract over a certain amount of years, you must stay below a cap of years aswell.
Anyways. I'll post the Rules and if you're interested, please leave you're email and I will give you the information and our website. I'd like to post it, but I really only want the guys in the league to know about the site. It'll save unknown people coming in and posting bids.
THE RULES
2009 NBA Dynasty Auction League
1.) 12 Team league (10 Spots are OPEN)
Roster format for the league is as such:
PG, SG, G, SF, F, PF, C, C, UT, UT, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, IR , IR.
Please fill all spots.
Scoring is as follows...
FG%, FT%, 3PM, PTS, REB, AST, TO, STL, BLK
Scoring will also head to head
2.)
Roster maintenance is the responsibility of the members and should be reflected in their separate team forums.
Format for poster will be...
Pos./Name/Salary/Length and option/Year of Expiration
And then your team totals in salary (/75) and years (/50) at the bottom.
For example...
C Greg Oden 10 3+ 2011+ (meaning, signed for 3 years plus an option, expires in 2011)
Team Totals 71.5/75 years 45/50, option years don’t count against the cap if you pick up the option in that offseason, that year is added to your year count.
3.)
The bidding process is as such...
There will be a 24-hour rule invoked on player bidding. The total bid on the contract (not attached to years) is determined to be the winning bid if the bid stands for 24 hours on the player. But if the player goes relatively unbid on for more than 20-23 hours, the bid will count only by the commissioner(s) dicrection. Meaning, if you purposely bid on players just to prolong the auction process, this will not be allowed. You only have 2 days to win the player, so we’ll be very strict on the bids. Sorry if you don’t like it.
Bidding and Auctions will take place at our forum site on proboards. If you're interested in joining, I'll forward you the website.
YEARS ARE NOT LOOKED AT OVER THE ENTIRE CONTRACT. YEARS ARE JUST A BAROMETER OF HOW LONG A TEAM WOULD WANT TO KEEP THE 18.0 CHARGE FOR ROY ON THEIR TEAM.
Instead of the contract being divided by the years, it is in fact the same bid per year that you are bidding on.
The team would count the $18 per year on Roy for the duration of the contract.
4.)
The auction cap for this league is $75.
DO NOT IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE GO OVER THE $75 CAP.
Meaning... do not place a bid on a player that would put you over the $75 cap should you reach that maximum. You are responsible for keeping track of your rosters too. I’ll keep track of all rosters on Excel with the salaries and years in track.
5.)
There will be a trade moratorium in place during the initial auction but will be lifted once rosters are entered in Yahoo and a trade committee in formed here. Meaning, your roster is set until I enter it into the yahoo site.
In the event of a trade, the two owners involved will have to do two things...
1. Post the trade here on the league message board
2. Post correct trade information with the salary and years included.
The trade will be valid when 2/3 of the trade committee; which will be made at a later date, members approve the deal.
When making a deal, also be sure to not go over cap. It is okay to have an odd trade (2-for-1), if the contracts check out okay and neither owner is over after the trade has gone through.
CASH WILL NOT BE TRADED HOWEVER
6.) a.)
Players will be introduced by position and conference, but by a random process.
If you want a player or target players later on in the bidding process, be sure to save funds for that player when it comes up. I think this is the quickest way to do this - just be sure to save if you want a certain player that has not been put up for bid yet.
The auction schedule will be as follows...
2 days per auction slot, 2 conference positions per 2 day period. Be sure to know which players are on which team. I’d hate to see you fill your PG spot with a guy like Ray Felton when you could’ve waited and bid on Deron Williams. It happens.
For Example, First bidding phase might include 20 EAST PG’s and 20 WEST PF’s…the next will be 20 EAST SF’s and 20 WEST SG. Until my list of random players ends. There’s roughly 2 lists per position.
Auction will begin once the league is full. Once this happens, the first Monday that it happens will be the first day of bidding. Bids will open Sunday night at Midnight. Once the 2 days are up, I’ll be locking every players who were up for bid.
Unsigned players will be locked and placed in the FA pool once rosters are set.
FA pickups are a sticky point. If you notice that Deron Williams was left out and not bid on, when the roster moratorium is over, please post in the FA pickup Request thread, I will open up the Deron Williams bidding forum and if you outbid everyone, he’s yours. There will be 2 days again to bid on him, but the best bid lasting 12 hours gets him, not 24!
6.) b.)
Now once you pick him up, you have to drop a contract IF YOU’RE AT THE 15 MAN ROSTER MAX. For Example, your PG’s are Arenas 20 5.0 +, Rondo 6.0 3+ and Williams 15.0 4+. You decide to drop Arenas, you are now on the hook for ½ of Arenas contract at 10.0 for 5 years, the option is waived because you dropped him. If you bid for someone and win with 20 @ 5 years, he becomes an automatic UFA when his contract expires.
Your Roster should go from this before Williams
Arenas 20.0 5+ 2013+
Rondo 6.0 3+ 2011+
-----------------------
Team Caps Sal 26/75 years 10/50
To…(brackets entail player was dropped)
(Arenas) 10.0 5 2013
Rondo 6.0 3+ 2011+
Williams 15.0 4+ 2012+
Team Caps Sal 31/75 years 14/50
7.)
Team Names are that of NBA Franchises, makes it more realistic. Commish and Co Commish are the Raptors and Nuggets, the other teams are all available.
8.)
Maximum length of contracts is 4 plus a Team option, marked as a “+” (4+).
9.)
The bid format for players is as follows...
Name/Dollars/Years, and if you want an option, put a plus (+) sign next to the years.
Example:
SG Kobe Bryant 28.0 4+
Meaning, you pay 28 per year for four years with an option for an fifth year on Bryant.
10.)
Minimum bids for Players must be 0.5.
If a player has five bids for his services, the sixth bid must be at least 0.5 higher then the previous bid.
The winning bid is the one with the most money put on the table lasting 24 hours without being topped! The best bid after 48 hours is declared the winner.
11.)
Like the cap, this will be strictly followed...
Each team has a cap of 50 years (around 3 years on average) that can be given out. Meaning, the amount of years given out to players cannot add up to more than 50 for each of the slots. The team years have to be 50 and under.
This will be followed, along with the money, so be sure to keep everything in check, because if you go over the cap for years/salary, there will be consequences.
12.)
DO NOT GO OVER THE $75 DOLLAR CAP, 50 YEARS CAP, OR 15 MAN ROSTER CAP!!
If a move happens that puts a team over the cap or over the roster size, the move (free agent pick up/trade) will be disallowed or you’ll need to drop a player. Make sure you drop the proper player, dropping a player making the minimum could still mean you’re over the cap.
If a bid is placed during the auction that would put you over the cap, it will be deleted.
So... there will be a penalty system instituted...
First warning - bids are deleted that put the owner over the cap.
Second warning – a swift kick in the rear and the bid is deleted again
Third warning - Cap money is lost - $2 for every bid that contributes to the owner going over the cap. I hope to not get to this
This is for the entire auction... obviously when it comes to trades, the committee will be looking over the contracts and total cap left and trades that put owners over the cap will be vetoed.
13.)
Inseason pickups and drops. The player you drop invokes a half cap hit. Meaning if you drop say, Shane Battier at $4 3+, you’ll be assessed a $2 salary cap hit over 3 years.
14.)
Trade Committee (TC for short).
1. A TC member must be impartial to his standing within in the league and judge trades fairly and objectively, researching the needs of the two parties involved in the trades (you know, look at the trades, then the rosters, and judge on the fairness of the deal).
2. A TC member must be aware of the contracts being passed between the two parties and thus must do the math in the effort to make sure neither team is going over cap of $75.
3. A TC member must be aware of the number of players that a team has on his total roster (starters, bench,) as well, as the teams cannot surpass 15 men on their rosters.
4. The TC will consist of three owners in the league and will abstain from their TC duties should they be part of a trade. Otherwise, 2 of the 3 owners must approve the trade before it is valid and pushed through Yahoo.
5. Trades will be proposed on this site first please…then if it’s approved, I will post the trade on yahoo.
15.)
You cannot edit bids nor can you outbid yourself. You place one bid, then hope that it stands for 24 hours. That's the point of the 24 hour rule. Don’t go putting last second bids on players neither, if the bid has stood for 23 hours, I’m pretty sure you’re just delaying the inevitable. Only time this will be allowed is for those really expensive guys such as Kobe or D-Wade.
If another owner comes along and outbids you, just raise your bid or let it go and go after another player. The best bid after 2 days is declared the winner.
Please leave your email if interested and I will take the first 10 people. If you want in, I'll forward you the message board url and ask you register with your realGM name and introduce yourself and which team you choose in the signUP list forum.
Please, this will be a fun league and best of all...it's free, so please come join us for some fantasy fun!.

Re: Managers Wanted: Inaugural Auction Cap League
I let you in despite my league being semi full. Thanks to you who signed up. I'll still accept emails if you want in....we always have a few people who aren't in it for the long haul and retire after a year....or even sooner. Your names will go on a waiting list and once again, it's first come, first on the list...meaning if you sign up first...you'll get the spot first if it opens up.
Thanks
Thanks
