Forgive me if I am out of line...I am kind of new to this particular board. I just need some of you serious cats to round out what I think can be a fun league...help a brotha out?? No..
LOL. Here is my invitation....
You know what, I was just thinking of a way to spice things up a bit and I decide to begin a fantasy hoops ABA league on NBA.com!
Some of you are not old enough or astute enough I persume to know much about the ole' American Basketball Association...but I do.
I thought it would be cool to add todays New School NBA stars to outfit your ABA named old school team! In fact, today's young stars could not hold a candle to a lot of the players who played back in the ABA that has some great teams.
The Kentucky Colonels, the Virginia Squires, the Dallas Chapparels, the,....etc...You name it anybody who was any kind of baller at all played in the ole' ABA. Like the NBDL it was a league in some of the most remote cities and not many fans outside those towns got to see them as the TV networks were no where what they are today.
Just like during the major league season when I created a Negro League fantasy league with today's players drafted to play on on your customized Negro League team, I want to do the same with the NBA and it's distant and late cousins from the ole' ABA. I am feeling a bit nostalgic tonite on the eve of the 2009 season so forgive me. But answer me soon!
It is the league that had teams like the Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, and New Jersey Nets came from that had a Hall of Fame lists of players who chose that league over the NBA back in the late 60's and early 70's.
I got interested it the league back in 1971 when Dr J spurned our Milwaukee Bucks to sign with the ABA and other players like high school phenoms Marvin Barnes, Connie Hawkins, David Thompson and a host of others went to the rival league with the NBA was struggling to make money and was near the point of folding under Larry O'Brien until David Stern came and Magic and Bird followed...
But enough of the history of the league...I will do more of that on the message boards of the NBA.com site. Go to Bucks.com and simply register and then look for this league.
League Name:NBA/ABA Fantasy HoopStars
