Lebron Trade - Fair Value?

Post#1 » by imsleepwaikin » Sun Nov 9, 2008 5:51 am

This is a 14 team league with 11 categories h2h:

FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO

After a series of trades it pretty much boiled down to this.

I Traded:

Lebron James
Rudy Gay
TJ Ford

I Received:

Antawn Jamison
David West
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Stephen Jackson

My new Line up is:

PG Jose Calderon
SG Stephen Jackson
G Devin Harris
SF Antawn Jamison
PF David West
F David Lee
C Zydrunas Ilgauskas
C Samuel Dalembert
U Beno Udrih
U Nate Robinson

Bench
11. Brook Lopez
12. Chris Anderson
13. Luke Ridnour
14. Amir Johnson
15. Aaron Brooks

No question, you get the bad end of this deal, by a pretty large margin. Take out a top 25 player in Rudy Gay and I still wouldn't do the deal.

I was hoping for a more positive response, but in any case I would like to go through exactly why I am on the losing end.

Here was my thought process.

FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO

Overall, I think I got an increase in FGM, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, REB, BLKS, and possibly ST. Is this wrong? We are playing in a 14 team league and the trade allowed me to shift one of my Roster spots to a bench position. I know I gave up the best player, but in return I feel my team has become deep and also has a better grasp on all categories.

Depth is not always good, and here's why. On a day where a lot of teams are playing, you can't take advantage of your depth because you can't play everyone. The production of those guys from the bench are wasted.

I see your point as far as a daily league goes. I did forget to mention that we are doing weekly line ups. With the trade I was able to remove Brook lopez from my line up and increase a number of different categories.

For the yearly projections:

Lebron James
FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
10.6 .484 7.3 .712 1.5 30.0 7.9 7.2 1.8 1.1 3.4

Rudy Gay
FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
7.7 .462 3.1 .785 1.7 20.1 6.2 2.0 1.4 1.0 2.3

TJ Ford
FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
4.8 .469 2.2 .880 0.3 12.1 2.0 6.1 1.1 0.0 2.0

I Received:

Antawn Jamison
FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
7.8 .419 3.8 .714 1.0 20.3 8.3 1.5 0.8 0.8 0.0

David West
FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
8.3 .482 3.9 .850 0.1 20.6 8.9 2.3 0.8 1.3 2.2

Zydrunas Ilgauskas
FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
5.7 .474 2.7 .802 0.0 14.1 9.3 1.4 0.5 1.6 1.8

Stephen Jackson
FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
6.7 .405 4.2 .832 2.5 20.1 4.4 4.1 1.3 0.4 2.7

These are the stats from last season. Since all of these players are going to be in my lineup for the week I do get an increase in FGM, FTM, PTS, REB, BLKS. It is a wash as far as TO, 3PTM, and I will lose FG% and ST. That's basically how I did my analysis, but the general consensus seems to be that I got taken to the cleaners. In any case, the trade is done, and either it goes through and I live with it or it gets vetoed.

I reckon you lost big time with that. LeBron is a top 4 player. Rudy is a top 30 player.

I think you gave up the best 2 players in the deal, and although you got some pretty nice solid players in return, none of them compare to LeBron. Even without Gay in the deal, you it's was debatable who got the better side.

Well guys, thanks for your opinions. Should we just merge this thread with the Worst decision you've ever made thread?
