Arenas' Return Appears Less Likely

Just days after the Wizards expressed optimism regarding the return of guard Gilbert Arenas, their stance has quickly changed.

Caron Butler said he didn't expect Arenas to return from his September knee surgery during a radio interview on Thursday.

"I really don't think it's gonna happen," Butler said.

Arenas also expressed uncertainty about the possibly of a return from his third knee surgery since April 2007.

"I don't know. I mean, seven wins? Would you?" said Arenas, who last July signed a six-year, $111 million contract to remain in Washington. "And truthfully, right now, I'm not even close."

This is just ridiuclous. He fooled us into thinking he would be healthy, he fooled his owner into thinking he was worth the contract, and now after he has all that, he says "seven wins? would you"

WOW

what a great franchise player.....this injury has now affected him for 3 FULL SEASONS....wow...I even forgot this guy's game, he's starting to become irrelevant in the NBA, he used to be a top 10 maybe even top 5 player, but now he looks gimpy and a mean guy.

Plus I drafted him high because he said he was healthy. Thanks for fooling me once again Arenas.

Fool me once, shame on you....fool me twice...shame on me

I'm disgusted....but not just b/c he's not playing....but because I WAS a fan... :(

while I dont have him on any of my fantasy teams...as a fan I feel you...

I can understand what he is saying but the way he said it came out all wrong...if it is not going to be a winning season...he signed a contract and is in it for the long hall so he might as well take the time to get fully healthy....but the whole "7 wins would you" was a bit much..

To be honest I never expected him to play this year when you look at the type of surgery he had it's just not standard procedure for a player to play for more than a handful of games the following season (if any)...

Of course you win. Every player you can get who's not on the waiver wire is a good deal.

Yahoo ranked him #109.

I have no sympathy for you folks, you're the idiots who drafted him. He was never supposed to be **** in the first place

This is another example of how fantasy and reality differ. In fantasy you want a guy like this to come back and contribute to your team. But in real life, at this point for the Wizards it is better for him to miss the rest of the season and have the team get a better draft pick in June.

Yes. The draft lottery should be redone. Go back to how it was originally. Miss the playoffs = one chance in the lottery. Each none playoff team should have an equal chance at the top pick.

I don't see how he is a bust, he was hurt before the season. Do your homework next year and don't waste a high pick. And a player saying he was coming back doesn't mean anything when he has said it the last 2 seasons.

"We've won 7 games" my ass

he's been playing/practicing for like 2 months, ive dropped him and picked him up like 4 times this year...he may end up playing but wouldnt say a word about it, just suit up and play one random night

"You play to win the game" was a quote I recall from one sport...lose the lottery and this kind of stuff goes away...but then Stern would lose a little of that grip he has on the 'ol club so thaqt will never happen.

If anyone expected Arenas to actually play this season in October when most of the drafts took place, I have very little to say to them.

If anyone expect someone like Tracy McGrady to play a tone of games and produce at a very high level, then I have very little to say to them.

I can go on and on with many other players. You have to have known the risks and what the situations were at the time. Risky players should never be considered busts.

Not a bust...

He's been saying he was going to play over and over for months. Risk/Whether or not he was going to play this year was not the issue, it was when. I personally did not draft him but he was not a risky pick by any means in the 8-9-10th rounds. Yao/McGrady/Wade is risky. A guy who got his knee scoped in the summer and milked it for his teams fanbase for months to get a draft pick/season tickets is not a risk, its bad info and some would say less than honest.

and the "I have very little to say to them" quote... sounds like your one of those people that watches Bill O'Reilly and rocks one of those "rush is rght" bumper stickers. hahaaha good luck with life bruthuman
