Bad to Draft 2 swingman in 1st two rounds? (Durant + Iggy)

Post#1 » by xxxSwiZzxxx » Fri Oct 9, 2009 7:17 pm

I have the 6th pick in a 12 team H2H 9 Cat, and figure I will end up with either Durant or Granger (or possibly Nowitzki).

But assuming I get either Durant or Granger, initially my focus on the 2nd round was to get a PG either Billups, Nash, Calderon, Kidd, or Harris.

But Iguodala seems like a great pick near my drafting position, as I know everyone else will be reaching for PGs. If any of those PGs mentioned above were available at the 19th spot, would it be stupid for me to pick Iguodala over them and start my draft off with 2 swingmen?

I figure i could pickup PGs in late rounds like felton, duhon or conley for a good number of assists.......or im thinking that at this point I might as well tank AST since I dont have an elite PG.....

What do you guys think is the best strategy? Iggy + Durant produce good numbers all across the board. But im just wondering position wise, should I get a PG second instead? Thanks.

The person in front of me is a HUGE Heat fan and he kept saying that he wasnt passing up on Wade again. The rest of my team is like this in my 12 team league and the cats are pts fgm fg% fta ftm ft% 3ptm 3pt% ast oreb dreb reb stl blk to

PG.Rondo
PG.Tony Parker
SG.Crawford
SG.Garcia
SF.LBJ
SF.Melo
PF.Harrington
PF.Aldridge
C.Love
Util. Oden
Kelenna Azubuike
Julian Wright
Danilo
Morrow
Landry

I know my bench is either going to be really strong or they are g2 really suck. But I feel like Kelenna is g2 do very good this yr especially if Jax is traded. Julian could be a strong contributor is every cat now that he starting in place of Peja. Danilo is going to be good this yr IMHO, but i am a knick fan sooo lol. Morrow mainly because I needed 3s and Landry could be good but if hes not then i can just drop him so its ok

haha nice......yeah your bench looks a little thin.......any thoughts on this team:

1. Kevin Durant (OKC - SG,SF)
2. Andre Iguodala (Phi - SG,SF)
3. Gilbert Arenas (Was - PG)
4. Andris Biedrins (GS - C)
5. Nene Hilario (Den - PF,C)
6. Mo Williams (Cle - PG)
7. Paul Millsap (Uta - SF,PF)
8. Luis Scola (Hou - PF,C)
9. Chris Duhon (NY - PG)
10. Chris Andersen (Den - PF,C)
11. Louis Williams (Phi - PG,SG)
12. Yi Jianlian (NJ - PF)
13. Rudy Fernandez (Por - PG,SG)

does any glaring weaknesses stand out? aside from assists....i did add duhon, but in all honestly i wasn't targetting AST....i just wanted to try out a draft focusing on two solid swingmen who contribute all around....do i have too much of any stat? I figure theres no point in going for AST since i wouldn't win it either way, so i tried to focus on FG%, BLK, STLS, 3PTM, REB, and even PTS, but i think i am lacking in points...what do u guys think?

Which of those PG's ended up being around in the 2nd round in which you picked Iggy over them?

It depends where you draft. If you draft 2 swingmen and then can pick up Rondo after those, you're set in most stats except fo0r rebounds and blocks, which can be easily had in round 4 and later.

For example:

Durant
Iggy
Rondo

Will give you a lot of ast, loads of stls, some 3pts, scoring and pretty okay %'s. What would be a good thins is to try and nab a player like Horford after those. And look for another center later on like Chris Andersen really late, or Haywood/Hibbert. Those guys will give you boards and blocks. You could also pick up a TJ Ford or a Louis Williams in a later round which will give you nice depth at pg. Avoid Duhon. Westbrook might look good after you added Rondo, or Nelson if he's still on the boards. Keep an eye on a player like Redd who's easily forgotten but would give you a nice source of 3pts.

Just saying, be sure to grab ast after going for those two and fill in the big men cats later on after the 3rd round. Rebounds and blocks are fairly easy to get in those later rounds.

Also dont overdo drafting on neeeds. It's wiser to draft big names/good players if you're not sure who to pick then to draft for a need. I won a league two years ago by experimenting with my picks. After the 3 rd round I grabbed the best big men available and pg's everytime. Other teams started to strike out on them and I could pull off nice deals right after the draft because people paniced, seeing they lacked pg/c's.

8. Luis Scola (Hou - PF,C) >> is okay but dont count on too much from scola.
9. Chris Duhon (NY - PG) >> he'll flare out after 45-50 games, hes not a starting pg. id trade him after 1 or 2 months
10. Chris Andersen (Den - PF,C) > nice pick for blks
11. Louis Williams (Phi - PG,SG) > smart pick
12. Yi Jianlian (NJ - PF) > dont like him. he's just not that good, could just as well go undrafted
13. Rudy Fernandez (Por - PG,SG) > ok pick but i dont think he'll do too much. good source of 3pts though

is haywood on the waiver wire? if so pick hhim up for yi

is hibbert around? he might have been forgotten
