Place your vote on the punishment - More votes needed.

There is a league that institutes an Injured List (IL) to replicate the one Yahoo had before the NBA got rid of the IL in favor of active/inactive players. The IL was implemented by allowing a manager to drop a player after he had missed five games and pick another player off the waiver wire. The dropped player would then be protected and no other manager can pick him up.

Suppose now that a manager, we'll call him Y, eager to pick up a well preforming free agent drops an injured player before he missed his fifth game. Suppose also that an attentive manager, called M picks up on the breach of the rules, swoops in and calls the injured player off the waive wire.

Now there has never been a hard fast rule as to what happens if a manager drops early. Managers have always been honorable and played by the rules. However, just days before the incident it was made clear "...don't jump the gun, otherwise I won't show you much mercy. You've all been warned." was posted by the commissioner and Y was well aware of it. More so than anyone else in the league.

So to who then should the dropped and claimed player belong?

I don't think there's any infraction here at all.

Y dropped the player to pick up another. His part of the story is done. No rule is broken

M picks up that very same player off waivers. I don't see any problem here.

This happens in every league all the time.

If the player dropped didn't miss enough games to qualify for the IR exception than it can't be applied.

The real question is when can M put player X on his IR? after his next game or once he's been on the team for 5 missed games.

I have missed out on so many players on the waiver wire litterally by seconds that if someone broke the rules to grab some one I think he should be punished and no mercy seems like the worst possible way. Y should lose the player he dropped or the one he picked up which ever one is the better player.

M would need to wait the five games.

Would it matter if Y is a really nice guy?

Also, I feel that there's another issue left unmentioned, let's call it 'A'. Now I know there's a certain rule, we'll refer to it as 'W', that a manager we'll call 'X' brought up at a time we'll know now by 'T'. Now X has some legitimate issues regarding A, and because W was not in place due to it being before T, X is showing a certain emotion, we'll call 'P'. X's feeling of P has left the rest of the managers P as well because as we all know P is only justified when A is before T! This is of course the case and X knows it! T was when X had some issues with another rule, we'll call 'F' and so he was feeling P even more than usual. So X called for a vote. The specific outcome of the vote is not important, so we'll just call it G. When G came around, X was no longer P! And so from T, W would be enforced and X, along with the rest of the league would no longer feel P! All was then well.

All in all I think M should just leave the voting to managers within the league. I don't see a point in 'the public' voting on this.
