What Is The Hotbox Sports Format

To the delight of many fantasy bballers, a new version of fantasy basketball is sweeping the underground fantasy realm. In reality, it's not so new… because if you have ever played fantasy football, this game is a natural fit. Each team plays two head-to-head contests per week; game periods are Mon-Wed and Fri-Sun. If your player has 2 games in a given game period, owners must choose which game will count towards their score. The result is a game where fans can feel the impact of their starters while watching the game. This leads to more "down to the wire" moments and yes, more screaming at the television. Get off the bench and into a league at HotboxSports.com. Feel the excitement of controlling your destiny and always having a shot at the pot. Don't look back. You are going to love this game!!!
The challenge in this new format is not so much who to start, but when to start? An owner's understanding of the game of hoops is going to separate him from the rookie owner who simply hands in a lineup each week. In the NBA, the difference between one game and the next is significant. If you have LeBron James and he has a game at home on Friday against the Lakers and then on the road Sunday versus the Thunder, you have to pick the one you want his stats to count from. On the surface, King James should light up the hapless Thunder right? Maybe, but Cleveland is a great team and could blow Oklahoma City out, thus limiting James' minutes. The Laker game, on the other hand, should be a closely contested battle and might even go into OT. LeBron is going to get his stats no matter what and perhaps the Laker matchup will give him enough minutes to lock up a triple-double. This means that the guy who got lucky on draft day needs to follow through in choosing his lineup in order to beat you. If he isn't a master, he will not be able to maximize his score the way you can.
The Hotbox Sports schedule is broken down into digestible pieces. Once you determine your best matchups for the three-day game period, you can actually make an effort to follow all 7 of your starters' games. The head-to-head matchups therefore mimic a "Football Sunday" where one game can really make or break your score. You also find yourself more likely to be engaged in serious trash-talk about the individual matchups facing you and your opponent's stud players. Below is a list of the typical starting roster and value for each stat category:
STARTING LINEUP:
1 Center
2 Forwards
2 Guards
2 Utility
SCORING CATEGORIES:
Point 1 Fantasy Point
Rebound 1 Fantasy Point
Assist 1 Fantasy Point
Steal 1.5 Fantasy Points
Block 1.5 Fantasy Points
Double Double 5 Fantasy Points
Triple Double 10 Fantasy Points
Quadruple Double 20 Fantasy Points
50+ Points 5 Fantasy Points
20+ Rebounds 5 Fantasy Points
15+ Assists 5 Fantasy Points
Look for Hotbox Sports Baseball and Hockey coming in 2010 and spread the word about this grassroots effort to take fantasy 1st class.
