Teams Paying Salaries of Traded Players

Where in the CBA does it say this is permitted, and what level is it permitted?

I would think this would conflict with the 3 million max contribution via trade rule, but perhaps not since the team isn't really sending the team a check.

In a complicated bit of league-permitted bookkeeping, the Sixers made sure they had sufficient room to sign Elton Brand by renouncing their rights to unrestricted free agent Kevin Ollie and restricted free agents Shavlik Randolph, Herbert Hill and Louis Amundson. They are also paying the salary of Calvin Booth and about two-thirds of the salary of Rodney Carney, traded to Minnesota in another move to create cap space.

Philly is not actually paying the salaries of Booth and Carney. Along with the two players, Philly also sent money to Minnesota that the Wolves say they are using to pay their salaries. Booth's salary and about two-thirds of Carney's salary would be around $3M, the max a team can include in a trade. The money the Sixers sent the Wolves is not included in either team's salary cap.

Ok, that makes sense.

They just worded it as if in terms of players, those players are a member of Minnesota's roster, but for accounting purposes, portions of their salaries are still being paid by Philadelphia, which isn't the same as, here's $3 million you can use to pay those salaries.
