End of the current CBA

Post#1 » by BlaZeN27 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:42 pm

Will this effect the big 2010 off-season? Or does the new CBA not take effect until after?

The current CBA runs until June 30, 2011. The NBA has the option to extend it an additional year.

I think it's affecting free agency (and extensions) already this summer. Current thinking is that the NBA will NOT extend to 2012, and will push for even tighter restrictions on contracts. If the rules are going to get tighter, then agents want to time players' next free agency to occur during the current CBA.

I've already been in (indirect) contact with one agent for a big-name player, who was trying to get an accurate read as possible on the situation, in order to determine the number of years to shoot for in the player's extension.
