Voiding Arenas' Contract - Jail time
If Arenas is sentence to jail time must that jail time occur during the regular season for the Wizards to have standing to void his contract under the premise he is unable to perform his duties under the contract? Or does that also extent to being unable to attend team practices, exhibition games, etc.?

Aren't you tired of this subject yet? We had an extended (and contentious) discussion covering just about every possible permutation of suspending or terminating Arenas in January and February. In fact, you started that one too. I'm sure that whatever sentence he gets, his attorney will be sure that he's out of jail by the beginning of training camp. So your question are no doubt moot.

That thread related to his situation prior to the plea bargain. Now that we know the parameters of the please bargain there is the possibility that he could serve jail time and that jail time could encroach on training camp. The plea bargain limits Arenas' jail time to 6 months. If he gets a 6 month jail sentence and has to start serving on April 1 he could miss the beginning of training camp. Even if he fights the 6 month sentence and gets it reduced he could look at 3 months but if the deliberations push the beginning of the sentence into June he also has a risk.
Thus, now that the facts have settled more the question is relevant whether missing training camp or pre-season preparations in general could give the Wizards a basis to void the contract. If you are tired of the subject or have nothing to contribute then perhaps you shouldn't post?

Re: Voiding Arenas' Contract - Jail time
Washington Wizards star guard Gilbert Arenas was spared a jail sentence Friday when a judge sentenced him to probation for bringing guns into the Verizon Center, ending a high-profile locker room confrontation with a teammate that changed the makeup up the team and Washington-area sports.
D.C. Superior Court Judge Robert B. Morin issued the sentence after a 100-minute hearing before a packed courtroom,
Morin sentenced Arenas to 18 months in jail, but suspended that part of the sentence. He ordered the star to serve two years probation to begin with 30 days in a halfway house, He also ordered Arenas to serve 400 hours of community service and pay a $5,000 contribution to a crime victim's fund.
Corrections officials will determine in the next few days what halfway house he will be assigned to. Once there, he will stay overnight, but be allowed to leave during the day to serve his community service.
I guess that answers the question.
