I'd like to welcome our new owner Josh Kroenke who will be named Managing Partner this week. He's a very good guy and is smart enough to know he needs a lot of help so I for one would like to say congrats and good luck to the luckiest kid on the planet.
Josh will have final say on all decisions, but for the most part will defer to (Bret) Bearup and Rex (Chapman) to determine what those decisions are. The budget will likely be set by Stan. It's not a huge change really. It's mostly just window dressing to satisfy the NFL. Josh's input will grow over time once he has the necessary seasoning to be more hands on. He's a sharp kid, so I am hoping for big things from him.
Being a Nuggets fan, this is interesting to me on a number of levels, but it's also pretty interesting in general.
First off, has anyone as young as Josh (29) owned a professional franchise before? The other thing I was wondering about is, who exactly will be cutting the checks here? Stan is basically just changing the name of who owns the team...but it would still be all his money that's being paid out to players and such. I would assume anyway, since it's not like Josh is a multi-billionaire like his dad(although I'm sure his allowance is a little more than the $10 a month I used to get). But wouldn't Josh still have to be the one 'signing the checks'?
I don't know, it seems like it would be simple, if we are to assume Stan is just changing the name on the papers to get around the NFL rule...but is still effectively the owner. But from what this insider guy says, Josh will have a little more control over things. I see a lot of potential problems with that if Josh wants to get a little ballsy about things...because after all, it will be "his" team.
One thing is for sure....Linas Kleiza, Josh's college roommate at Mizzou, will be back in the NBA next year on a max contract.
