Players already granting authority to decertify the union

Post#1 » by killbuckner » Mon Dec 13, 2010 3:58 pm

I figured this article would be interesting to many here. Its sort of flown under the radar but according to this article the Players have already started the process of giving the authority to decertify the union. Evidently 2 teams have already voted unanimously for this.

It never made any sense to me why the NFL players would be all about decertification while the NBA players wouldn't want the same negotiating leverage. In this CBA negotiation, the problem is that the owners are far too willing to hand out huge contracts which does make it seem like the players would do very well to decertify rather than to lock themselves into a very restrictive CBA.

I think there's a ways to go till we get to decertification. The lockout will happen on Jul 1st when the cba expires. They'll negotiate for 2-3 months, after that noise will be made about decertifying and replacement players.

Anybody knows what it takes to recertify though? Lets say hypothetically they decertify and after a month a few players decide to cross the line and say they will play. Can they recertify themselves along with nbdl players, overseas players, etc into a new union?
