Nets 2012 Cap situation, if...???

2012

$20.46 mil Anthony
$9.23 mil Lopez (cap hold)
$12.65 mil Hamilton ($9 million guaranteed)
$7 mil Outlaw
$4.25 mil Farmar
$1.24 mil James

$54,83 mil for 6 players
+
2011 first round draft pick from L.A. Lakers
2012 NJN first round draft pick
2012 first round draft pick from Houston(lottery protected)
+
3 cap holds

That is around 60 mil!!!

I do not know what are NJN thinking? Not with Anthony trade, that of course is a no brainer, BUT with Hamilton Murphy swap. That is totally unreasonable!!!

I know Murphy must be send to a 3 team to make the Anthony trade work, but...What they should do is trade Murphy for 2012 ending contract for instance to CLE for Jamison, adding first rounder CLE would probably do that.

If they want to add Chris Paul in 2012 no way they should trade for Hamilton, his contract kills any chances for NJN to add a good player in 2012, at earliest 2013 they would be a player, but by then Carmelo and Lopez Contract would be to high to have any room left.

Hamilton part in this trade is recipe for mediocrity for NJN.

They could probably package a first round pick and Hamilton for an expiring contract, Hamilton is apart of the deal because Leon Rose is his agent.

No way. Hamilton can not be traded for expiring contract if you add 2 first rounders to his contract. Only way would be to trade him for a bigger 2012 expiring, but also that would be highly hard to do.(Jamison the only big enough and bad enough contract which ends 2012, only others are Okur, Camby and Kaman. But no way Det, Por, Lac would want or need Rip).

Detroit knows, getting rid of Rip is a dream scenario!!!

You're forgetting that the Nets are also sending Johan Petro and his awful play/contract to the Pistons.

It's also not unreasonable to think they could send a package of Hamilton + Farmar for an expiring and Outlaw + James + picks for an expiring. Even with Outlaw's awful contract, it's 7 mil flat every year which isn't impossible to move.

The Nets this year signed these players in free agency:
Travis Outlaw - 5yr/$35M
Jordan Farmar - 3yr/$12M
Johan Petro - 3rd/$10M
And traded for:
Anthony Morrow - 2yr/$8M

All of these guys, the Nets would now gladly trade for cap space. But maybe it's for the best, because otherwise they'll just sign the next batch of players to larger, longer, worse contracts.

Outlaw for sure was a big mistake...

...but what about trading Lee + 10,6 mil cap space for Murphy

If they would have that space now the Carmelo trade would be made 2 month ago...what a stupid move trading for Murhy.

I think all this moves show NJN management does not know what are they doing!!! And that is why trading for Hamilton is a terrible move!!!

By Larry Coon's FAQ, I thought it was 250% and around $7.8 million?
