Payment Schedule

Post#1 » by SkyHook » Fri Jan 21, 2011 2:02 am

I know that teams are allowed to vary the payment schedule to a player under contract. Some players get a large portion of their contract paid before a season begins; in the past up to the entire year's salary prepaid.

My question is...are teams able to change the payment schedule within the season. Could payments be accelerated prior to a trade occurring in order to make the contract (especially an ending contract) more appealing to the receiving team?

When a player who has received upfront payments is traded to another team, his new team is required to reimburse his original team for any payments made to the player beyond what he was due to be paid for the time he played.
