how can players' bri decrease but cap stays the same?

I don't understand something, which is how can players' share of the BRI reduce from 57% to 49-51% yet, the new CBA stipulates that the cap wont move for 2 years? AND teams have to spend at least 85% of the cap?

Players are going to have to give back a crapload via the escrow. Even then It might not cover it.

Players will miss 16 games worth of pay, but TV revenue might not drop as substantially. That might make up for some of it.

The escrow is 10%, so they could give it all back and only get 47%, if revenues are flat.

This year will be prorated for salaries. And true the BRI may not be reduced as much as the proportion of regular season games.

In year 1 the players are guarenteed 51.15% which is a little higher then what they will get in the following years. This is so the changeover is a little easier for teams.

Then they will probably calculate a slight increase in revenue (4-4.5%) that would compensate for some of the difference between the old bri and the new one.

Pro-rating the salaries for 66/82's will also make up some since the players will only be getting 80% of their salary meanwhile 66 games and the playoffs is greater then 80% of a full season of revenues.

And the 10% of players salaries held back in escrow should cover whatever is left and if not then the 1% of bri that is going to the players benefit pool will go to the owners.
