Can somebody explain the latest CBA talk to me plz

I see a lot of talk regarding team building with the latest Collective Bargaining Agreement.

But what's that all about? What changed to make draft more critical in team building now?

I honestly do t know what the old CBA was so didn't really compare. But asking if somebody can explain the talk behind this change and what it did differently.

Under the previous CBA, teams had viable options that allowed big spending teams to have competitive advantage because of their willingness to spend. If a big spending team made a mistake by offering a player to much, they had options to recover from their error by spending even more money.

The current CBA tilts the other way. Frugal teams that spend wisely will have competitive edge over teams that have unproductive salary commitments.

i dont know if my question applies to this trade but its being talked about right now. Why cant the clippers and celtics trade players with each other this summer after the doc rivers for a pick trade?

Because they made it really obvious that Rivers switching teams was designed to be a part of a larger transaction also involving trading players, and that's not allowed.

It's actually a CBA issue, and it has to do with the rules on swaps of players.

In exchange for a player, you're only allowed (according to the CBA limits) to get other players, picks, and a little bit of cash. But there's no way to prove that Rivers, moving as he did from one team to another with compensation going the other way, isn't some sort of added compensation to one team or the other supplementing a player trade. Unless there's no player trade.

So the league made them choose which they would do, move a coach or move players between the teams.
