Could KG retire and then sign with the Clippers?

Could KG retire, sit out a prescribed period of time (hopefully not the length of his remaining contract) and then sign with the Clippers this season?

From Marc Stein: "Clips, I'm told, now concede there's probably only one way they ever get KG: KG retires, sits out a few months, unretires and signs w/Clips. Pierce & KG CAN'T be traded from Celts to Clips but there APPEARS to be wiggle room via free agency. Key word: Appears."

First of all this is uncharted territory. There is no "prescribed" period of time. And if KG were to "retire" and then "unretire", there's nothing to say the league won't say that he still can't sign with the Clippers.

One other thing to consider is the $12M Garnett is due to make this year. If he "retires", he leaves that on the table. And if he were to sign later in the season, I doubt that the Clippers would have much money left on their team salary to pay him.

I doubt KG cares much about the money anymore having earned $250m+ during his career. Can the league thwart a player signing? I knew that could stop trades but I wasn't aware they could object to a player signing.

Players don't retire and walk away from guaranteed money. Especially 8 figure contracts. Except in very rare cases. Not seeing it here, this feels like Clipps-fan fantasy rather than real life.

Since the league wouldn't permit KG going with Doc to the Clips, the league could determine that your scenario is just a roundabout way of adding KG to the Doc for #1 pick trade.
