bulls' draft pick situation

Post#1 » by 30AD » Sun Dec 25, 2016 5:14 am

i've looked on various sites, including smitty's here, where it shows the picks each team has, but the format for me is still confusing.... i can't tell exactly how many 1st or 2nd round picks chicago has in '17, or in the future..... can someone tell me please......

also, can someone explain the situation with the kings' pick involved with the bulls please....

thanks

If the Kings pick is 11-30, the Bulls get it. If the Kings are 1-10, then Chicago gets the Kings 2nd rounder.

Besides the Kings pick, Chicago owns no other picks and owes 2 of their own 2nd rounders -- in '17 and in '19

Altogether:

2017:
Chicago 1st
Kings 1st if 11-30; if not Kings 2nd
(Chicago 2nd goes to NYK)

2018
Chicago 1st
Chicago 2nd

2019
Chicago 1st
(Chicago's 2019 2nd to L.A. Lakers)

2020
Chicago 1st
Chicago 2nd

2021
Chicago 1st
Chicago 2nd

2022
Chicago 1st
Chicago 2nd

2023
Chicago 1st
Chicago 2nd

wow! thanks man! that was really easy for me to understand, another question though.... there is a date involved with that kings pick.... if something doesn't happen by a certain date, then something happens? :) what's that?

The date would be when the draft order is set. If the Kings make the playoffs then Chicago would definitely get their pick. If the Kings miss the playoffs then it would be after the draft lottery (though if Sacramento is a bottom-7 team pre-lotto Chicago will definitely get their 2nd and not their 1st).

thanks a lot man for the reply... i might have worded it wrong... what i meant was by what year does this pick transaction end between the two teams?
i thought the deal for the pick was only good up until a certain year...
but anyway, thanks a lot man :)

In the case of the Kings' pick that Chicago has - it's for this season (or the 2017 draft to be clear). It's this season and then it's over, one way or the other. Of course this pick was traded several years ago, originally to Cleveland for JJ Hickson (Cleveland later traded it to Chicago, I believe for Deng). The pick was top-10 protected, defaulting to the next year's draft if not conveyed and Sacramento kept drafting in the top-10.

ohh, but there was a 2017 cap on it? if so, nice, nicely explained :)
