Derrick Rose sign and trade?

Post#1 » by sportscrazy » Sun Jul 23, 2017 2:23 pm

I saw reports that the Knicks can sign and trade Derrick Rose, but I thought the Knicks needed to release Rose's cap hold in order to sign Tim Hardaway Jr. and I thought once there is no cap hold that a sign and trade is no longer an option? Am I wrong, I'm sure reporters that get paid by ESPN to cover these things must be correct somehow, but I wanted to confirm how.
Disclaimer: Trades I post shouldn't make you stressed or angry if you disagree. If you say it's unproductive because it won't happen and we're only allowed to post deals that actually happen, it takes away 99% of trades here and the fun out of the board.

Not unless Rose is signing for the minimum in a S&T, which would never happen, since the new team would just sign him for the same amount.

It isn't that without a cap hold that a S&T isn't possible. You just need enough cap space to sign the player to the deal to facilitate the S&T.

And I wouldn't expect all reporters to be accurate on every nuance related to the salary cap and CBA. They aren't necessarily paid for that. They are paid for other things. And if you are referencing Ramona, she's very, very good at what she is paid to be good at. Both Eric Pincus and I almost immediately tweeted at her about the error. But she was likely told that vs coming up with it herself. You would be surprised how often the media gets it wrong because the teams themselves have it wrong.
