I thought it just reduced the amount of money owed to the player and the amount on the books for salary purposes stayed the same. But, someone said that it also reduced the amount owed from a salary perspective. I tried researching it myself on Larry Coon's Faq, but I really couldn't decipher the answer.
Anyone know for sure?

Cap cost for salary reflects the money paid. If a buyout reduces what a player is being paid, the cap number is reduced accordingly.
