Team $15M under the cap trades for $25M player

My team is $15M under the cap and wants to acquire a $25M player in a trade. Clearly, my team will need to include a player for salary matching purposes. What is the minimum outgoing salary my team needs to include in this trade?

CBA faq says the incoming player salary must be within 125% of my team's outgoing player salary. I'm not sure how to make the salary matching calculations when the trade will push my team over the salary cap.

Is it 125% of outgoing player salary + 125% cap space used? If so, then the minimum outgoing player salary would be $5M.

Is it 125% of outgoing player salary + 100% cap space used? If so, then the minimum outgoing player salary would be $8M.

The most efficient way is sending a 9.9M player (you take the incoming player into cap space, within 100K) which is a cap room trade.

To use the over-cap trade rules (125% or 150%), you must generate a "trade exception" in the trade from your outgoing player(s), and then apply your "exception" to incoming in that same trade to add them onto a cap that is too full to legally take the salary. In round numbers, you would need to send out a $19.92M player (or set of players) to have TE in that trade that can take back a $25M player.
