Trading a draft pick and matching salary

Post#1 » by coolness » Mon Apr 12, 2010 3:24 pm

First my incomplete knowledge.
1. A future pick included in a trade doesn't count towards matching salaries.
2. On draft day, the pick (from THAT draft day not future ones) does count as salary.

I hope I'm right so far, but what about between the end of the season and the draft?
Or, just in case, between the draft lottery and the draft?

For giggles and much more, what about when you trade for a drafted player's rights?

Please and thank you. :)

You're not; draft picks have no value in trades until that player is signed. This applies both before the pick is made and after it. Until you're under contract, your salary value in trade calculations is $0.

Same. If you're trading for the draft rights only, i.e. they are not signed in the NBA, then that player has no trade value.
