So I read Larry Coon's FAQ thing on TPE's.

IIRC, Denver dumped Steven Hunter to Grizz and got a TPE.

For example, if Miami dumps Beasley (4.9m) + Cook (2m) + James Jones (4.65m) to a team with cap space for a future pick or something, we can get a 5m, 2.1m anda 4.75m exception?

Also, James Jones has an unguaranteed contract (4.65m, 1.85m guaranteed or something close). Could we trade him for a 4.75m TPE and the other team unguarantees him? Basically we get a 4.75m TPE for a player we would cut for 1.85m

As long as Miami is over the cap, trades away one player (or in this case a series of trades of one player), and receives back less in salary than it sends out, it can receive a trade exception for the difference in salary.

However, the Heat is likely to utilize cap space in the offseason to acquire a max free agent. Once it clears the necessary cap space to do so (thus placing it below the cap), all existing trade exceptions would be lost and not recoverable, and new ones could not be created until the Heat is again over the cap.
