How do unguaranteed contracts work?

is it possible to sign player x to a 20 million dollar one year unguaranteed contract?

There are certain restrictions on guarantees based on different situations (qualifying offers must be guaranteed, the first year of a sign-and-trade deal must be guaranteed, etc.), but I think under the right circumstances you can have a 20-mil unguaranteed contract.
