Possible lockout questions

Just interested in some things, and if anyone knows, would appreciate the answers...
Player has a five year contract, lockout happens and lasts during his second year, and then it ends. Is he still under contract for 4 years, or 3? If for 3, can he get "lost" money in any way?
Read in one Larry Coon article that only free agents can sign elsewhere during lockout, but only because of FIBA not giving clearances to sign to other players. Could we see some lawsuits, if not against NBA, but FIBA for not giving those?
What was different in 2005 and NHL lockout when hundreds of NHL players signed and played elsewhere?
Thanks!
