Assume there are two teams wishing to do a trade. Assume both teams are over the cap and the trade fulfills the salary requirements for a simultaneous trade.

Team #1 is trading one player making $12M

Team #2 is trading two players, one making $7M and one making $3M ($10M total)

How are TPEs handled in this trade? If Team #1 holds any TPEs that could cover one or both players from Team #2, can they be part of this trade?

Well if team 2 has a te for $11.9m or more they can receive two new te's ($3m and $7m).

If team 1 has a te for $2.9m or more they can receive a $5m te (12-7); if they have a te for $6.9m or more then they can receive a te for $9m (12-3); if they have both of these exceptions or one totalling $9.9m or greater than they can receive a $12m te.

This confirms how I thought the trade exceptions might be used. I guess I hadn't looked close enough at previous trades between teams that had existing trade exceptions large enough.
