Buyout or Waive-n'-Stretch for Joe Johnson and Deron Williams??

I think it's pretty obvious Joe Johnson and Deron Williams are untradeable, even though JJ is an expiring next season. Which route would be the more feasible for Brooklyn to take? Either way, it's gonna cost them money anyway. I also just wanna know if it's the right move for a franchise buried deep in the luxury tax area.

Considering either way you'll have to pay them, and pay for replacements, are they really going to be able to get anything/anyone better to make the move worthwhile? Like, are they destroying things that much (both on court and in the locker room) that paying them to just go away would be the most advantageous option?

For this season, there's no point. Johnson's probably their best player, losing him for nothing (and they wouldn't have useful cap space anyway) would just help Boston get a better pick.

Deron makes a little more sense, but again they wouldn't have cap space this year anyway so there's no benefit to do it this offseason. Now, in 2016 the Nets could have useful cap space and at that point a waive&stretch of Deron could free up significantly more cap space for that summer (at the expense of being on the books for 2 extra years).

So, you guys are saying Brooklyn is better off riding out JJ's contract then waive n stretch Deron next year?

Those are the only two alternatives BKN has?

They're basically hanging by a thread for the 8th seed so why not blow it up

Blowing up an old and mediocre team involves making the team worse, likely for a couple of years. That can be an effective strategy if you're in position to get high draft picks out of it. The Nets don't have that route available though.

Baring 'winning' unlikely trades that really aren't on the table, the Nets only real option is riding out the current team then using cap space (hopefully) better when it becomes available.

Since the Nets are on the market to be sold, now is not the time to blow up a playoff team, even if they are an 8th place team in the East. My guess is that they'll stand pat for now ad let the new owners decide what they want to do.
