Kevin Durant will obviously be a free agent this coming 2016 off-season. However, I could see him signing a one year deal with the Thunder before leaving or signing a long term deal to stay. A few reasons being that if he re-signs long term and Russell Westbrook leaves the following summer, that leaves him in a bad spot. Also staying another year would give Billy Donovan some more NBA experience to see what he can really do. Off the court, if he waits until the 2017 off-season, not only will the MAX salary and salary cap increase, Durant will enter the next tier of MAX contract for years in the NBA.

However, with his possible injury concerns, I could see Durant being skeptical of signing a one year deal. What is the longest contract Durant could sign in the 2016 off-season with the Thunder that includes a player option after the first season? Is that even a possibility under the CBA?

To maximize his decision financially and on the court, I could see him signing a five year MAX contract with the Thunder that has a player option after the first year and was just wondering if that's legal.

2 years. A player option may only be on the final season of a contract.

bondom is correct. You can only have an option year as the final year of a deal. Rookie Scale deals are the exception.

I'm sure you are more familiar with Kevin Durant and his injury status (in terms of longer term effects from it), do you think even if he does re-sign with OKC, that he will give Billy Donovan a second year as a pro head coach, check to see how Russell Westbrook handles his 2017 free agency and get himself into the 10 year NBA veteran MAX salary with an overall higher salary cap/higher MAX salary and re-signs with the Thunder on a 2 year deal with a player option after the first year or do you see the injury concern being real in his head and him taking the long-term money no matter where he signs?

I think the 1 and 1 is most likely as the injury isn't a concern. He's all on board with Donovan and the team, and he and Westbrook on the same page in general. I could see a chance he takes the money but most likely IMO is the 1 and 1.

Instead of starting a new thread, I'll keep it here.. I posted a trade on the trade board where the Wizards send out Ramon Sessions and Martell Webster with picks for Markieff Morris and Langston Galloway. Under this scenario, can the Wizards still have enough cap space to sign Kevin Durant to a full MAX under the projected cap numbers?

Since I'm being annoying with all of these totally hypothetical Kevin Durant requests, why not add another to this thread.

If the Knicks were to make the trade I suggested on the trade board where the Knicks involvement is essentially sending out a protected conditional first round pick with Jose Calderon and Derrick Williams for Marvin Williams, Steve Blake and Tony Wroten then:

Arron Afflalo opted out, but the Knicks held his cap hold rights as well as keeping the cap hold rights for Langston Galloway, Cleanthony Early, Lance Thomas and Lou Amundson.

Would having on the books:

Salaries:
Carmelo Anthony
Robin Lopez
Kyle O'Quinn
Kristaps Porzingis
Jerian Grant

Cap Holds:
Langston Galloway
Cleanthony Early
Lance Thomas
Lou Amundson
Arron Afflalo
3 Empty Roster Spot Cap Holds

Does that leave enough cap space to MAX out Kevin Durant at a starting salary of $25.3 Million with a $89 Million salary cap?

If it's easier for some one to just give me the exact numbers of those cap holds, I can do the math myself, but can't seem to find a web site that provides 100% accurate cap hold numbers.

Basketball Insiders is almost always spot on. There is always a little movement, especially for guys who sit around the Average Salary number. But that is the site I double check my stuff against.

If Durant signs a 20 mil a year 2 yr 2nd yr PO with a new team say Lakers do max raises starting at 35% of new cap.

So if cap is 100 mil 35 mil with .075 pct raises.
