No. LeBron James has a Player Option for next year. No player who is a free agent in the summer, or has the option to be a free agent, is eligible to traded after the Trade Deadline.

LeBron could opt in to his deal. At which point I think the deal would be legal.

If LeBron really wants to go to Houston it probably has to be an opt-in and trade deal like Paul took last season anyways.

True. But he hasn't done that, so the trade is illegal as of when the poster asked.

Also, James has been very consistent in saying he owes it to all the players to always take the most money he can. If he sticks to that, he's not opting in.

So if LeBron opted in, the trade would be legal? Isn't LeBron technically making more money in 2018-19 by opting in to his $35.6 Million salary then re-signing a MAX 5 year deal with Houston next summer?
