Kinda wondering, can a player be bought out and then that buyout money be stretch waive provisioned? Went through the CBA FAQ and didnt find any language pertaining my question. Likely a no, but just wondering if anyone knows for sure.
For example
Team A is thinking of stretching Player X as theyre over the cap or unable to find an adequate trade partner
Player X is willing to be bought out cuz they wanna ring chase on a contender and knows they can get a decent deal on the open market to make up for whatever less his buyout was.
Team A and Player X comes to terms, buying out his 2 year 30 mil remaining deal for say 22mil.
Instead of taking a 11 mil a year cap hit for those 2 years (actually can Team A structure the cap hit to be 15m year1, 7m year2?), can Team A stretch provision the 22mil/5 for a 4.4m cap hit per year?

Yes. This happened with Josh Smith and Larry Sanders both IIRC.

Time of year matters. Those end-of-final-year buyouts can't be SWed. In your example of "Team A and Player X comes to terms, buying out his 2 year 30 mil remaining deal for say 22mil" the 1st year portion might NOT be able to be SWed, depending on when the buyout occurred.

I didn't want to start a new thread for a similar, but opposite-ish concept.
Could you extend a player's contract and then stretch waive him? Like could the Lakers extend Luol Deng's contract by 3 years starting at the minimum contract and decreasing by 8% each year then stretch him?

Not exactly, but they can kind of get to the same result. Eric Pincus wrote about it extensively here:

The challenge is that other teams and the NBA could push that this is a circumvention of the salary cap. That would make it a messy situation all around.
