(e) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in a Uniform Player Contract, a 10-Day Contract shall be terminated simply by providing written notice to the player (and not by following the waiver procedure set forth in paragraph 16 of the Uniform Player Contract) and paying only such sums as are set forth in Exhibit 1 of such Contract.

Is this saying the procedure for terminating it at the conclusion of it or does it mean terminating it early?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm running the #'s for the Wizards, and I figured they cut Wilks this early because it would leave room for a 10 Day Contract later on, whereas keeping him until January 9th would not. But when doing the #'s the Wiz don't have enough for a full 10 days unless its a veteran with less than 2 years of experience so I was wondering if you can cut a player early from a 10 day contract.

Also, are we sure that the salary counts for a player until he clears waivers? Does this mean that a player this season would have to be waived January 7th (since if he was waived on the 8th, the 10th would count) and do Saturdays and Sundays count with waiving and salary? Thanks in advance

It's my understanding that a 10 day contract lasts a full 10 days . . . no more, no less.

When a player is waived he is still paid until he clears waivers. This is usually 48 hours after he is placed on waivers, unless a weekend occurs during those 48 hours. While the waiver clock stops on weekends, the payment clock doesn't. So a player waived on a Friday won't clear waivers until Tuesday, but he will be paid for Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon & Tues.

Doug Christie, when he left the Clippers during his second ten day contract with them, got put on the suspended list and not waived early. That'd imply stuff.

The league required the teams to waive any player whose contract they didn't want to guarantee by Jan 7 at 6pm ET, so that they would have 48 hours to clear waivers.
