Is there any leniency in regards to roster spots in trades?

Is there any leniency in regards to roster spots in trades?

An example of what I'm thinking is a 5 for 1 type trade from a team with 15 (down to 11) to a team with 13 (up to 17).

The team with 17: Can 2 of the players be bought out withing 24 hours or anything like that?

The team with 11: How much time do they have to reach the league min (13)?

I think the league would not allow this.

The team with 12 players would have to waive or trade two players before your hypothetical trade could be consumated. As far as the team that is down to 10 players, the CBA says that a team may have 11 players for so more than two consecutive weeks. This means that they would have to add one player at the time of the trade and add another player within two weeks.

Don't they have the ability to waive/buyout 2 of the players being received in trade, as part of the transaction, without having to waive another player already on their roster?

Yes. If I remember right, one example is the trade the Lakers made in '99, picking up Glen Rice, JR Reid and BJ Armstrong. I -think- that would have brought them to 16, and Armstrong was waived concurrent to the trade.

I stand corrected.
