Antoine Wright trade question

Post#1 » by FARMERMAN10 » Thu Feb 14, 2008 12:28 am

sorry to bother you all, but I had a simple question about the recent Kidd deal.

My understanding is that Kidd will be dealt to the Mavericks along with Malik Allen, in exchange for Diop/Stackhouse/Harris/Ager/George/3 mill/2 first rounders.

then in a second deal, Antoine Wright is sent to the Mavericks in exchange for a second round pick.

Now, my assumption is that Dallas is using a previous trade exception to make the Wright deal (or else they wouldn't be able to take on salary). Is this correct? what Trade exception are they using?

Also, why the second deal? Apparently there was some kind of roster restriction, keeping them from doing it all as one deal?

thanks for your help

I havent done the math, but in all likelihood the trade wouldn't work with Wright included.

So he was sent in an accompanying deal.

The Mavs had a 2.64M TE from their trade of Anthony Johnson to Atlanta around this time last season.

There is cash in the deal, but I wouldn't assume it's $3M.

$3 mil was the reported figure, but apparently that matters not now.

Given the stance of the parties involved, and the fact that the teams and their needs haven't changed, my best guess (an educated one, but admittedly a guess) is the deal still happens after a delay. I'm guessing this same deal, or a very similar one, is submitted by Friday at noon.

And I still think when a reporter hears "cash" they just assume that means $3M, but that it is more typically a targeted (and lesser) amount for a specific purpose germane to the trade. Which is why I'm skeptical here, even though one reporter has copied another and so on and now it looks like we have two sources.

^ yeah...this entire trade is actually extremely interesting cap wise, especially considering Harris is PPP, so it makes the calculations different on both sides.

I knew the trade deadline was approaching, which is why I got it done to lighten my workload.

One of the things that I find most interesting about this trade (assuming it goes through) is the reported Jerry Stackhouse buyout. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Jerry guaranteed $14.25M over the next two seasons? That means the Nets will pay him $14.25M to go back to the Mavericks.........................that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. It seems that they would be better served trying to trade him. He would at the minimum return an expiring contract and a 2nd round pick or a lower level prospect.

The only thing I can think of is that his contract was not guaranteed after this season or that this is a prearranged deal. In other words, no buyout for Stack then the Mavs say no deal. I am certainly curious to see what everybody else thinks about this.
