So if you sign a veteran FA to a multi-year deal using the "Non-Bird" exception (120% of previous year's salary), what are the max annual raises that are allowed? Does it matter if you are resigning your own player vs a FA from another team?

My understanding is the the 'Non-Bird' Exception can only be used to re-sign your own free agents.

8% of first year's salary is the max for raises using this exception.

Also, as per L Coon, a team has the option of signing a non-qualifying veteran free agent to a to a salary starting at 120% of the player's salary in the previous season, 120% of the minimum salary, or the amount needed to tender a qualifying offer (if the player is a restricted free agent), whichever is greater.

Thanks for the responses. I was wondering whether the Celtics could offer James Posey or Eddie House deals that were attractive enough to make those players stay without using all or a portion of their MLE or Bi-Annual exception.
