NY / Philly....CBA Question

Jamal and Mardy for Miller and Carney.

they would be able to offer Smith a max contract if they did this trade.

Question: Can you have a trade pending based on whether or not a team agrees with a restricted FA?

example here: if Smith agrees and ATL doesnt match, this trade goes through. If ATL matches then no deal.

are pending agreements like this allowed under the CBA?

thx

No.

Dunkenstein is right.

Philly can only offer a contract based on the capspace they actually have. Therefore they could not even make a max offer to Smith until AFTER this trade were consummated. They could not rescind a trade based on a future unrelated event the way you describe.

(Also, in real-world terms there would be no reason for the Knicks to agree to a trade that would be contingent on what the Hawks, a third party, did with Smith, a fourth party. They'd tell the Sixers to take it or leave it.)
