Crawford Trade...why wait until July 1?

Post#1 » by bgwizarfan » Thu Jun 25, 2009 12:34 pm

I'm just wondering why this Golden State deal has to be done after June 30th. Crawford has to decline his ETO by then. Doing the math, the ONLY reason from Golden States perspective I can see is that it creates a larger trade Exception for them, and perhaps they have a player in their sights to use with that exception, or maybe they just want a larger exception.

TPE for GS if trade done before July 1st: $810,501
TPE for GS if trade done AFTER July 1st: $1,934,386

= difference of $1,123,885 for a trade exception.

is there any other reason the trade would be on hold?

From what I hear, the trade is on hold until Crawford either signs a paper waiving his ETO, like Etan Thomas did with Washington, or July 1 when the ETO is no longer applicable. But you explanation of the increased TPE after July 1 could just as easily be the reason. I haven't heard anything definitive either way.

The Warriors announced the deal is official. Crawford must have signed away his ETO.
