Can amare and Bosh be extended in S&T

Is it possible for a team (and if so, does it make a condition as to whether they are over or under the cap) to condition a Sign and Trade deal with Amare or Bosh on their agreeing to an extension. Alternatively, is it possible, as both players appears to have player options for 2010-2011, to condition a trade for them this year on their exercising the player option in advance?

Your first question doesn't make any sense. You are asking if they can be signed & traded contingent on the signing an extension to their existing contract? Either they sign a new contract when their previous one is over, in which case it is a S&T, or they are traded while their existing contract is still in effect, in which case it is just a normal trade.
Assuming you trying to ask if teams can agree to a trade with it contingent on the player accepting an extension, then the answer would be yes. More specifically, two teams can agree in principle on a trade, and then the player's original team can allow the new team to talk to the player and his agent to see if they can work out an extension. If they can, the teams then make the trade official. I am uncertain which team signs the player to the extension in this case, though.
In the second case, yes, that is also possible; players are allowed to decide on their options at any point before the deadline. The trade that sent Fred Jones to Portland from Toronto was contingent on him agreeing not to exercise his option over a year before its deadline.

Thanks for the mind reading. You answered the question I was trying to ask. By sign and trade, I meant, sign an extension and get traded even though they were already under a valid contract and not a free agent.

Isn't that basically how the KG trade went down?
The question would be which team signs him to the extension, but that's kind of a moot point since either team would have the Bird rights.
The interesting question about this might be - is the extension really binding, like the contract in a real "sign and trade"? Or could a player renege?

If he signed an extension amendment to his contract, it's binding. Otherwise, as Sam Goldwyn once said, "A verbal agreement isn't worth the paper it's written on". Just ask Jim Paxson about his verbal agreement with Boozer.

I think what is being asked here is: does the NBA have an "extend-and-trade" option (ie a parallel to a sign-and-trade) where the extension is actually negotiated between player and NEW team and is conditioned on the trade being consummated.
And the answer - assuming the player is eligible to sign an extension, of course - is yes. The old team has to give permission to allow those extension talks to talk place.
