Offer Sheets/Renouncing Players

Post#1 » by casey » Thu Jul 9, 2009 10:41 pm

This question is in reference to a potential Millsap to Portland offer sheet. Does Portland have to renounce Freeland and Koponen right now to free up space to use in an offer? Or can they wait until the Jazz either match or don't match?

Yes, but if Utah matches, they can rescind the renouncement and get the pair's rights back.

Well, I think that's right. That's the way it is for FA's at least, and so I can't imagine unsigned draft picks working any differently, since they're both essentially just cap holds in this scenario.
