Salary structures for newly signed free agents...

Post#1 » by lakerfan10770 » Mon Jul 20, 2009 9:13 pm

Alright, so I decided to update this thread and turn it into more of a tracking thread. So here are the newly signed contracts (at least all the ones I can find). I filled in as much info as I could and would appreciate any input in regards to my mistakes, missing info, player & team options, partial guarantee amounts, incentives and any other info you guys think we should track.

I put the mechanism used to sign each free agent in parantheses and I also heavily used the ESPN TM for the 1st year salaries. In fact, I decided to put an asterisk next to any 1st year salary that I did not get from the ESPN TM.

Brandon Roy signed a 5yr maximum contract (based on this year's #'s = $81,799,028) extension contract with the Blazers (Bird Rights).

Appreciated because I'm too lazy to do this myself. I will probably end up updating my 2k9 rosters myself once finals are over :=D

Which of those are actual numbers presumably from the league, and which are "as reported" or "as calculated" numbers that are primarily assumptive? It would help to know which is which on your list.

I am simply a fan and do not have any "access" to league information. All of the 2009-2010 salaries are from the ESPN TM and any of the structures that I listed are my assumptions based on the deals that were reported. I am pretty confident in some of the salary structures I listed (Ariza, Gortat, Artest, Wallace, Pachulia, Jones, Brown & Meeks) the rest I am not so sure about. Any input you guys can add would be greatly appreciated.

Ben Gordon was published (by Doug Thonus, I think. Otherwise, another Bulls reporter) as:

$10,000,000
$10,800,000
$11,600,000
$12,400,000
$13,200,000 (PO)

That contract structure for Gordon makes sense, it's a straight forward $10M starting salary with 8% raises (exact same deal Josh Smith got), but everything that I have read has indicated that Ben Gordon signed for 5 years $55M (not $58M). Just a guess, but if he did "only" sign for $55M, then perhaps it is with $500K raises:

2009-2010 - $10,000,000
2010-2011 - $10,500,000
2011-2012 - $11,000,000
2012-2013 - $11,500,000
2013-2014 - $12,000,000 (PO)

Cool, thanks. Funny thing is when you google Ben Gordon signs with Detroit, all you get is articles showing 5yrs-$55M (obviously all regurgitating the same info).

$13,200,000 (PO)

These numbers are correct.

Reports out of Indy were that Jones' 1st year of his deal will be for $2.4 million.

I don't know if these numbers are correct, but the $6,217,617 for Bibby match perfectly a $18M/3yrs contract with a 3.5% descending structure. The contract could be like that :
6,217,617 - 6,000,000 - 5,782,383

For Zaza, the logic would be a flat contract with 4.75M in each year, but it can also be structured in a way to prepare the lower Luxury Tax next year and maybe a new raise after that:
4,750,000 - 4,251,250 - 4,750,000 - 5,248,750

Need to be confirmed.

Dunk, can we get a confirmation for this? Any word on the exact salaries of Earl Watson and Solomon Jones as well? I assume Jones is the vet minimum.

If you can't tell, I'm pretty much looking for the Pacers info from this summer.

If you believe the Suns beat writer, here's what he says about Hill/Frye.
Forward Grant Hill spurned a one-year, $5.85 million offer from New York to handle "unfinished business" with the Suns. A cross-country trip by Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver, General Manager Steve Kerr and coach Alvin Gentry to visit Hill on Thursday did the trick, as they improved their offer to $3 million this season and a second-year player option of $3.24 million.

...Also, Channing Frye will come home and fill a Suns need for a big man, accepting a two-year offer worth about $4 million.
...Frye's deal is expected to be similar to a biennial exception but will be taken from the mid-level exception, like Hill's deal, to save the exception.

Just as an FYI, I got Josh McRoberts salary from the ESPN TM, which although it's not perfect, it is pretty accurate. The one thing I find interesting about this is that his QO, which I swore he got, would have been for more then the Vet min. I suppose they can negotiate whatever deal they want, but it seems to me that his QO should be the low end, not the vet min becasue he could simply accept the QO and deal with a new contract next year.

I also saw a tidbit about Earl Watson's contract being for 1yr and $2.8M, which is peculiar because it was widely reported as a multi-year contract. Perhaps there is a TO on it or something.

As to Grant Hill and Channing Frye, I see that ESPN TM finally has listed Grant Hill's salary at $3M. I had been assuming that he would get a 10.5% raise since he is their own Early Bird Free Agent, but this is the Suns, so 8% raise it is. Channing Frye is listed at $1,990,000, which is of course the exact amount of the BAE, not really sure what great benefit it would be to keep the BAE over the MLE. In fact, I would argue that the MLE is better because it could be extended for 5 years, but IDK.

Also, I did make a few updates to the OP.

Odom's deal is done.

4 years, $33 million, the first three years are guaranteed for $25 million and the fourth year is partially guaranteed for $2 million.

Don't know the exact numbers for all of the years, but my guess is the total salary of the last year is $8 million.
