When a team (or the nba) suspends a player, who ends up holding the money that the player didn't get due to being suspended during games? Does the team just get to keep it? Or does it go to the league to defray league costs?

The money is collected by the league and given to charity.

Art VI Sec 6: “In the event that (i) a fine or suspension is imposed on a player, (ii) such fine or suspension-related Compensation amount is collected by the League, and (iii) the fine or suspension is not grieved… then the NBA shall remit fifty percent (50%) of the amount collected to the National Basketball Players Association Foundation… or such other charitable organization selected by the Players Association... The NBA shall remit the remaining fifty percent (50%) of the amount collected to a [charitable] organization selected by the NBA...”

Thanks folks. It's good to see that the league and the teams don't have an incentive to suspend. Unless, of course, they have an *in* with the charity....
