The fool in me FORGOT that Realgm has a CBA board. I am quite a regular on the Trades and Transactions board so the answer to such questions would benefit alot.

Question #1 - How was the Pau Gasol extension computed?

- Pau Gasol has 8 years of experience, therefore his MAX would be 30% of the current salary cap. Using 57.7M as the figure, Pau Gasol was eligible for a 17.31M 1st-yr-of-extension salary. Since he has a final year of 17.822.187, is it correct to assume that MAX extension would have meant $19,693,517 on the 1st year? Computed as 18.822.187 x 1.105.

Question #2 - How will Amare Stoudemire's extension be computed?

- Amare has a final year of 17.686.100 (assumed to be his contract IF he signs an extension) so am I right in saying its 19,543,141? Computed as 17.686.100 x 1.105.

Question #3 - How Much will Lebron, Bosh and Wade earn this upcoming summer if they signed in NY or NJ or any other team not their previous one? Cap set at 54M.

3a. With Bird Rights and 6 seasons

Year 1 - 16.20M
Year 2 - 17.90M
Year 3 - 19.78M
Year 4 - 21.86M
Year 5 - 24.15M
Year 6 - 26.69M

For a total of roughly 127M over 6yrs.

3b. Without Birds, signing to another team for 5 seasons

Year 1 - 16.20M
Year 2 - 17.50M
Year 3 - 18.90M
Year 4 - 20.41M
Year 5 - 22.04M

For a total of roughly 95M over 5 yrs.

The first year of an extension can never be more than the maximum salary. In Gasol and Stoudemire's case, that's either 30% of the cap or 105% (not 110.5%) of the last year of their previous salary. Since the cap is going down, both the Lakers and Gasol's agent agreed that 105% of his last year salary of $17,823,000 (or $18,714,150) would be the maximum salary he could expect to receive in 2011.

The same reasoning would hold true for Amare. If he opts out of the last year of his contract and signs an extension before July 1, his salary for 10-11 would be 105% of $$16,378,325 = 17,197,241. If he opts in to the final year of his current contract and then extends it, his salary for 11-12 would be 105% of $17,686,100 (or 18,570,405).
