My impression has always been that it was the personal wrongdoings (insults, serious threats, teaming up with other posters to cause havoc, etc) that were the primary issue, and that the spamming was secondary to the point that even if that were resolved/prevented, the first issue would prevent the return of PM's between posters.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

A simple way to give to give users the ability to send PMs to one another without people abusing the system and sending hate mail or spam is to add a buddy list feature.
Users would only be able to send messages to people who accept their request to add them to their buddy list.

Yeah i noticed they added that friends/foes thing, i wonder if theres a way to set that up with the PMs where you just recieve them from friends.

Re: When will Private Messages become unrestricted?
The mods at the Raptors board are really getting cocky and abusing their "power". I tried to PM a mod about a complaint I had after he needlessly edited one of my posts--he redacted my use of the word "idiotic", seriously. Of course, since PMs are disabled, I had to make a post to make my point. I didn't even create a new thread or anything like that; it was in an appropriate thread. Another mod, not even the one I was referring to, deletes the post and PMs me to give me a lecture about criticizing mods and that I should've PMed him instead, even though he knows I can't. So basically, mods can now do whatever they want with a post and no one can appeal because PMs are off. Jeez, they really take their "jobs" way too seriously. Their job is to MODERATE, in other words to make sure threads are on topic and to keep everything civil. There's nothing in the definition that gives them the right to delete and edit posts they disagree with which I've seen over and over on the Raptors board.

Interesting.
On every other board I have posted on, moderators always ushered posters to take their flaming to PM. I don't quite understand why RealGM would have a policy that's exactly the opposite.

Because it would always flare up in the open forum, and lead to all kinds of crazy stuff being claimed between the posters in the open forum, with posters trying to start up factions to defend them. It's easier to just have all the posting go on in an open forum that is easily visible to everyone.
