How come I can't use search?

When I try to do a search for my posts I get:

Sorry but you are not permitted to use the search system.

And if I try to search for another poster's posts on that person's profile page... I go nowhere...

I was wondering the same thing too, but I read another thread in this forum and apparently it has been disabled since September 2008. Weird.
