GIFs crashing browser

I have no idea if I'm the only but I'm experiencing difficulty whenever i load a page where a user either has a GIF on their avatar or in their signature. Whenever the page loads and I scroll down to read a post, if there is a GIF is present it crashes my page. I'm on a mac, and I'm just wondering if i can do anything to avoid the crashing of my browser. Thanks.

You can disable them here. You have been contributing to problems on the site for other people because your signature is over the size limit of 400x90. So, to be nice, you have one hour to remove it before I do. Note: Another mod may remove it before me.

nope, it's at 400x100 pixels.

When I'm on google chrome and using my Mac I experience similar issues.
