Avatars: How do you load them here?

I know it's a real basic question, but I can't figure it out.

If there's a link on how to load one or a simple explanation, I'd appreciate the info.

go to user control panel, click on the profile tab, then go to edit my avatar.

user control panel is located above the thread title.

dcash4, I've gotten that far, I should have noted that.

I get to edit my avatar and I'm stuck from there... I tried dragging a picture and pasting one in( wont give me the option), but no luck with that... I'm missing a step from that point.

You cant drag or anything like that. Upload it onto imageshack.us and then post the link in the bar.
