Mods: GLARING Error in Melo/Houston Wiretap story

Post#1 » by Stuckey-man » Tue Aug 24, 2010 1:50 pm

You guys might want to pass this along to whomever you can. There is a really inexcusable error in the "Kroenke's Son Tries To Woo Carmelo, Who May Prefer Rockets" article.

From the original, cited article: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A ... enke082410

"Despite significant speculation the New York Knicks are the team that Anthony would most likely want to join, two sources close to him insisted the Knicks have been overstated as an object of his desire.

From Wiretap's version: http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... r_rockets/

"two sources close the All-Star forward claim New York has overstated his interest and that he'd prefer to play in Houston."

The meaning of the original statement has been completely altered by laziness on behalf of the person who wrote the Wiretap story.

You just don't ... you just can't do that if you want to be regarded seriously.

That's why you read these nooz articles with a closed mind. Unless it's something concrete, like a signing or a trade that has been completed, don't believe it. Don't believe rumored signings, don't believe trade rumors, etc.

It's not even a question of the accuracy of the original Yahoo story. RealGM's Wiretap is a completely legitimate enterprise. It's cites and compiles NBA stories from the web. No problem there.

But by switching a couple of words, the author of the Wiretap story completely changed the context of the claim made in the Yahoo story.

As I say, this is simply inexcusable.

Misquoting a source isn't shocking.

It is when all you are doing is summarizing a written story.

Either way it's saying the same thing, which is basically that, there is being too much made of him liking NY, when he is equally intrigued with going to Houston. Different words, same message.

Actually it doesnt mean equally, it just means the Knicks have been overstated.

Perhaps the media has been making it seem that his desire to be in NY was 90% and other places 10%. When infact his desire to be in NY is 70% and maybe Houston 20% and other places 10%.

I'm just throwing out random numbers, but you get what I'm saying. Changing around a few words makes a huge difference in what is meant.

Edit, and having just read the article myself, it does say is more excited about the idea of playing for Houston than the Knicks. So again, it wouldnt be equal, Houston would actaully switch to being the more likely team to get Melo.

You're just now noticing that RealGM fabricates, distorts, perverts, and in other ways adulterates the "news" that it supposedly reports???

It might be that someone such as SAS is one of the last credible "news' Sources when it comes to basketball. For all of these websites and blogs, it's all about hits and ad revenue.
All in all he's just another prick with no wall

Reporters do this all the time making up a story that really isn't there. Why is anyone surprised?

I brought it to their attention and they corrected the error.

That's how you affect change. By calling attention to it.

As opposed to whining about it with a fatalist attitude, I mean...

stucky man, the quicker route is to contact all your board's mods and have them report it. They have an inside route to correct wiretap errors.
