Trending Topics?

Hey guys, my apologies if this has been brought up before, I went back a couple pages and didn't see anything.

Have we ever considered putting in Trending Topics like Yahoo? RealGM as a whole is such a large site with so many different forums on so many different subjects. I can think of multiple ways this would help out. For one, it would help everyone know where the discussions are taking place on big news or a big event, usually when something big happens the same topic will be posted on many of the forums (like the teams involved and the GB of that specific sport) but one of those threads may be taking off while you're left trying to keep up with the thread that you commented in that only has 3 replies and never make it over to the more busy of the threads where people are actually having a discussion on the topic.

Another way I could see it really helping posters like myself would be early in the morning and really late at night when the activity is down, many times in those situations I would be down to get into any intelligent conversations but when the only very active board at those points are the NBA General Board it makes it difficult.

If maybe each sport section of RealGM (Basketball, Football, Baseball, Hockey, Other Sports) each had a Trending Now or What's Hot? option showing the most active 5 or 10 topics that would help steer posters into better conversations and would keep convo's going longer and make them more interesting.

This would also be a help to people like me who just like to watch sporting events and if I know that for instance the Soccer board is jumping right now due to a certain game being on, I would have no problem clicking on that trending topic, turning that game on and discussing it, but I'm not always going to have the time or patience to check every single team forum and section of RealGM just to try and see what's going on.

You could even go deeper with this and allow people to exclude certain boards from their trends (like say if someone doesn't like the NBA General Board or if someone is checking out the Other Sports trends but doesn't like Tennis) and have a timetable for the trending topics, like say the last 30 minutes or the last 5 hours, whatever you fancy.

Sorry for the long post but this has been on my mind for a number of weeks now as I am often up very late or very early looking for some interesting discussions to jump into.
