Technology Forum?

Post#1 » by NyCeEvO » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:16 am

Has there been any discussion of creating a Technology Forum?

I'm a Nets fan and we often end up discussing tech news and information in our Random Thoughts section, but it jumbled/lost in the mess of other random things people bring up.

Considering that most of us (presumably) have smartphones, I know that many people often ask questions about the latest phones that are coming out, how cellphone coverage is in other areas that they people travel to, how to root/jailbreak their phones, etc.

It could also be used to discuss TVs, computers/operating systems, and other technological devices. I know a lot of people spend a considerable amount of time on RealGM and using electronics, but neither the Media Forum nor the Gamers Forum really incorporate the many facets of tech. I think many of us can benefit from having a technology forum.

I'm here for moral support of NyCeEvO, but I'd like to support his proposition as well.

NyCeEvO,

I'll take it under advisement.

If enough users want a forum, it can happen and it has within the past year with our Australian Sports and Discussion and Gamers' Lounge Forums.

Thanks HM,

How did those groups get started?

Did you receive a lot of requests for such groups independent of each other or did the people who had the idea ask others if they wanted the forum and if they could support?

I would not mind making a post/topic on the GB and local teams forums about this and have people who are interested add comments to this thread in support of the idea, but if that is against the rules, I won't do it.

NyCeEvO,

The Australian Sports and Discussion was requested here on the Feedback Forum and had many threads on The Off-Topic Forum.

They wanted their own Off-Topic Forum but I felt it might not be enough for their own. However, we also wanted to increase our Australian viewing and I decided that combining Australian Sports with the Off-Topic Discussion would put them over the top.

The Gamers' Lounge also kept getting interest and after evaluating the situation and asking The Moderator team for their thoughts, it was an overwhelming response and the forum was created.

It would be best NOT to make a post everywhere especially The General NBA Forum.

My advice would be to start a technology thread on The Media Lounge Forum and see where it goes.

This is a great idea, but NyCe smells like cheese and his avatar makes me dizzy. I'm really torn.

I actually see some people making random posts here and there like this in the media forum. My advice is to start something up there, and see how many people join in and "push" the thread along. Just create the interest, and you'll be on the right path, imo.

Well... it would have been nice if the thread for a potential tech forum hadn't been closed before 10 viewings.

Yeah, Howard Mass...I made a thread in the Media Lounge and it was closed without an explanation before anyone had the opportunity to post in it.

I don't know/understand how we can poll the RGM fan base about whether they'd support the creation of a technology forum, if we're not allowed to create topics in the Media Lounge or Gaming Forum about it, considering that those are forums that are most related to the subject matter.

Instead of making a thread for just support for a potential tech forum, why don't you just make a thread that IS a tech thread and use that for support as it gets more and more replies?

I would love a technology forum. Be good to discuss our gadgets, and get some tech support from other geeks.

Right now, we have an active thread in the Media Lounge entitled "OT- Help/Support the Creation of Technology Forum on RealGM". We're discussing tech issues there and if it becomes popular enough, we'll hopefully get a forum for it.

Another vote for a tech forum.

As always, we will see what happens but we have no plans to add a Technology Forum at the moment.
